ICT homework for this week is to upload a photo of one of your pets to our Wiki. All you have to do is log on to the Wiki, click on the Pets Folder and open the pets document. Once you are in you need to upload your picture and label it. I will model this in class.
The new P.O.W for this week is….. SABRINA. Great work Sabrina, you are a fantastic worker.
Mr Baker has been busy writing reports this weekend and has nearly finished. Don’t worry I had lots of nice things to say!!!!!!
Guess What? Only 23 more days until the end of the school year. I have definitely started the count down!!!!! In fact I have made a countdown widget in the sidebar. Roll on the summer holidays. See you all tomorrow.

Wow, would you believe there is only 22 more days of school left!!! It only seems like yesterday that we started and I can still remember writing my first ever post in February for the blog.
Anyway, I have decided to not give out any more Worksheet Homework (Reading, Writing and Spelling) as we have been doing it all year. Instead I am going to make up some fun ICT (Blog/Wiki) tasks for R5 to complete.
R5’s Big OE Project was supposed to be handed in this week but I have decided to extend the deadline to the end of Week 7. That leaves everyone 2 more weeks to get it handed in.
This week’s ICT homework is to add 3 sentences to R5’s Evolving Story on our Wiki. What you have to do is log onto the Wiki and click on the Writing link or Writing Folder. In that folder you will find a Page called Evolving Story. From here you need to read the story and add three sentences of your own to it.
Please add your name to your piece of writing, save your work and please don’t change anyone else’s sentences. We have done this task before but on the Blog.
Anyone who does not have access to a computer at home can log onto our school computers in the morning before school to complete the task.
Lets get writing everyone, I look forward to reading your story and see where everyone takes it.

Hey Team, Blog Homework this week is carrying on from what we have been learning in Maths (measurement) and Theme (crime).
Foot to Height
When a forensic scientist has the length of a foot they can estimate the height of the person. A person’s foot is about 15% of their height.
So the foot length x 100 / 15 = the approximate height of the person. (100/15 = 6.666666)
Your Blog homework this week requires you to do this exercise with an adult in your family. Record their foot length, times it by 6.666666 and then measure their real height and see whether it matches. Send me a comment with all the details.
Lets get measuring Team, I look forward to your answers.

Since it’s Lamb and Calf day on Tuesday I thought Blog Homework for this week should be about pets. All I want you to do is send in a comment telling me about the pets you have at home. Make sure you describe and tell us all about them.
I look forward to reading your comments. (Below are some of Room 5’s pets)

Awesome, it’s back to school tomorrow and it’s straight back into homework. Week one Blog Homework is as follows:
1) Write a question through a comment on the ‘Problem Solving’ page. It can be any question as long as you know the answer. If you want you can also answer other people’s questions.
2) On the ‘Big OE’ Page pick a country from the Europe map and write through a comment its capital city. Check other people’s answers to make sure you don’t write down a capital city that has already been done.
I have written down an example on both pages to show you what to do. Lets get commenting everyone, I look forward to reading your questions and answers.
We will also have normal Worksheet Homework of Reading, Sentence writing and Spelling. Plus on top of that we have the Big OE Project which I will explain tomorrow.
See you all tomorrow!!!

Hey everyone, Mr Baker is feeling better and will definitely be back at school tomorrow. We have got heaps of things to catch up on so it’s going to be a busy week. Elizabeth will announce P.O.W tomorrow.
Last weeks Blog Homework was to write a shared story and I thought you did an awesome job. This week in class we are going to take the story and add illustrations to it.
This weeks Blog Homework is to create your own original Superhero (crime fighter). You need to give it a name, describe its powers and write a little about it. Good luck, I can’t wait to see what you come up with.
See you all tomorrow!

Hey team, great work on last weeks Blog Homework, your sentences were awesome. This week’s Blog Homework is again about Writing as this is a big focus for us in class.
Your Blog Homework task is to write a Shared Story. I am going to write 3 sentences to start the story off and each person has to read the other people’s sentences and add 3 sentences of their own to the story (a bit like we do with our Writing Boards in class).
Try to make your sentences flow on from the person before you and don’t forget all the things that make a good sentence (full stops, capital letters, verbs, adjectives, good vocabulary, must make sense, conjunctions, punctuation etc).
Here are Mr Baker’s 3 sentences and the start of the story.
Once upon a time there lived two little children named Kate and Jack. These little children were no ordinary children as they had special powers and they loved nothing more than to show them off. This led to many strange and interesting encounters.
Lets get creative team, I can’t wait to see where you take the story.

Hey team, Mr Baker has decided to give the Blog a bit of a make-over. I originally started the Blog as a bit of fun and had no idea it would grow into something so big and cool.
Anyway when it started I pinched the name Room5ians from another Blog thinking no one would know or care. Well Blogland is not that big and they do know so I think it might be time to get our own name.
This week’s Blog Homework is to come up with as many different names for our Blog as you can. Mr Baker will pick his favourite and change the Blog’s name. Here are a few names I thought of: Newbury Star, Live on Five and The Pulse.
I look forward to reading your suggestions and coming up with a new name.

Hey Room5ians, hope you are enjoying your weekend and have been tuning into the Olympics. Has your Country won a Medal yet? Anyway who is the new P.O.W? Well Curtis has decided to give it to someone who has never had it. It goes to… Sabrina. Awesome Sabrina you rock!!!
It’s a busy week ahead (as always) as Mr Baker is away Tuesday (Planning day) and Wednesday and Thursday are Parent Interviews. Can’t wait to talk to everyone’s parents about all the things you have been up too.
Homework this week is as normal. Blog Homework - If you could pick an event to win Olympic Gold in, what would it be and why? Mr Baker’s answer: The Marathon, I have always wanted to run a Marathon and think it would be a major achievement to win that event at the Olympics. I love it when they run the final lap in the olympic stadium.
Enjoy your evening and see you all tomorrow.

Hey everyone, sorry it’s taken me so long to get this weeks Blog Homework up but I have been extremely busy.
First Voki Challenge Clues: Children’s Voki is somewhere in Europe and the city has the most beautiful park in the middle of it. Parent’s Voki is not in Asia, is a city with 2 million people and has a river running through it. It also had its US Embassy bombed by Al-Qaeda. Good luck, both Voki Challenges are tricky!!
W8 BLOG HOMEWORK
Send me a comment telling me about your favourite place in the world. It could be somewhere in your house, town or somewhere you have been. Please explain why it’s your favourite place.
Mr Baker’s answer: My favourite place in the world is Hyde Park in London. I just love Hyde park because it is such a beautiful park and I used to live right next to it in London. London is a awesome city and the park used to remind me of NZ and I loved going for walks and runs in it every day.

Hey Room5ians, Well W7 is going to be an extremely busy week. On Tuesday is the Kainui Cross Country and on Wednesday is the Mark Donaldson Rippa rugby Tournament. Children going to the Cross Country on Tuesday need to remember to bring back their Permission Slips tomorrow. At the moment I do not have enough cars and might have to take less kids if transport does not improve. Please see me tomorrow if you can take a car.
I have put up a new Voki Challenge so have a go at solving it. It’s pretty tricky!! Here’s a couple of clues: It’s a English speaking city and it’s not in Europe. Good luck.
WEEK 7 BLOG HOMEWORK - Since we are learning about Statistics in class I want you to collect some data about your house.
1) How many doors does your house have?
2) How many windows does your house have?
3) How many steps in your house?
Mr Baker’s answer. 1) 20 doors 2) 42 Windows 3) 9 steps
Remember to be honest, I look forward to reading your answers.

Hey Room5ians, No one has figured out the Voki Challenge yet so I’ll give you another clue. The city is somewhere in Eastern European. If I was trying to figure it out I’d be reaching for my Atlas. Good luck team, it’s a tricky one.
If you check out the Maths page you will find I have put up a new Maths Quiz. It’s based on what we have been doing in class. This week we start Statistics.
Blog Homework for this week is to write about what you want to be when you get older. For example:
When I get older I want to be a _____________. I want to be a ______________because_____________________
Mr Baker’s answer: When I get older I want to be a Photographer. I want to be a Photographer because I love taking photos and have always been fasinated by beautiful pictures and the way that they show a moment in time. I think being a Photographer would also be really interesting beacause you get to do different things all the time (I get bored doing the same old thing all the time). Maybe I’ll do a few more years teaching then study to be a photographer. It would be so cool!!!!!!
Look forward to reading your answers and don’t forget to explain why you want to be that person.

Hi room5ians, Blog Homework for this week is to do a PMI on camp. What is a PMI? Well it’s a Plus, Minus and Interesting comment about this year’s Taupo camp. For example:
Plus - The burma Trail. I thought the Burma Trail was awesome fun and everyone was so brave.
Minus - Not getting to fish at the Trout Farm. Next time I think it would be cool if everyone got a chance to catch a trout.
Interesting - What if everyone had the option to do the bungy jump?
Try to make your PMI unique to you (Don’t copy others) and try to explain your answers. I look forward to reading your comments.
